Q&A with Colour Castle
The values that House Music pertain are what Colour Castle lives by; community, love and respect.
In two years, Colour Castle has launched his own label, ‘Hot Sunday Records’, spent 26 weeks at #1 in the ARIA Club Charts, collaborated with vocalists like JAW, Damon Trueitt and Roland Clark, and formed collaboration project, ‘Misingo’, with House compadre, Doorly.
After setting stone single, “Walk Right In” gained support from the likes of Danny Howard, Carl Cox, Hannah Wants and Billy Kenny, Colour Castle rapidly became a sought after name not just at home, but also abroad. 2017 saw three monster collaborations with international House Royalties Miguel Campbell “I Know A Place”, Doorly “Stay Hungry” & Yolanda “Love Addict” (Best known for her vocal on 'Duke Dumont - Won't Look Back'). Constantly striving to serve the community of House Music and put out the best he can, you’re going to love Colour Castle as much as he loves you.
You have just launched a new project with Doorly called MISINGO, tell us a bit about how that came to be and how will this be different from your collaborations like "Stay Hungry" and "Jaspers Keys"?
“So basically we have started so many songs we thought the best decision was to put everything into a new project, our aim is quality productions crossing genres from disco, house and techno. We are also going to play live sets, between Casper manning the keys and various analog synths and his keytar, myself and Doorly on the decks with DJS500 & I’m working on adding bass guitar. We have a collaboration with DESTRUCTO coming out June 12th.”
You've just released a solo track called "Getaway" and have a collab coming up with Buried Kings, Birdee and Brazen. You don't seem to be slowing down any time soon, any projects coming out soon that you're excited about?
“Been working non stop in the studio and loving it. We have a streaky steam of monthly singles and a remix for Roger Sanchez we are super excited about.”
You are the head honcho at Hot Sunday Records, how have you dealt with the recent month from a label standpoint and what have you had to adjust or do differently?
“We have stopped spending as much, and kinda re focused our releases. We understand that so many people are experiencing different situations both mentally and financially. In reality we have shifted to more of a good friend and positive influence to our artists than a label, and trying time support people where we can.”
Obviously gigs in nightclubs have disappeared. Is there any venue that you can't wait to get back to, maybe took for granted, or appreciate more since the lockdown?
“Oh man too many to mention. I can’t wait to play some sets, luckily I have some live streams at onesixone, Glamorama and pawn n co.”
You've taken part in a few live events including Pawn Hub, what are you thoughts on live events and their future in the industry?
“I love then I just wish the copyright would ease up.”
We are living in some different times, have you picked up any hobbies or interests you've started since social distancing began? and is there something random you miss?
“Just a few, bass guitar, lots of exercise including the Wim Hof course, running, bike riding and diving deeply into audiobooks.”
Who are your biggest musical influences?
“This is always a hard one to answer because there are so many. I love old school rock and listened to bands growing up, now the bands I listen to regularly are more on the soul and funk vibe like SAULT, Hiatus Kaiyote. Really loving Marco Lys, KINK, and more.”
What Inspires you outside of music when the creative well runs low?
“Sleep hahahahaha. Exercise, spending time with family and trying new things.”
